Musings: Caesar Club Sandwich

Did you see Ina make this sandwich a few weeks ago? It looked like a “wow.” Definitely not the same old chicken sandwich.

We’ll start posting our versions on Thursday, March 25.

So, what did you think of it? Are you making any substitutions? Going whole hog with the anchovy paste?

  1. Well, that is really different and I bet it is delicious. It surely looks good and the anchovy paste would get your attention, I’m sure. Love Ina! Thanks!

  2. Just a few suggestions if some things aren’t available in your area: romaine lettuce instead of arugula, bacon instead of pancetta, and fish sauce, Worcestershire sauce, or capers for the anchovy paste (or it could be optional)!

  4. I can’t see buying anchovy paste just for this recipe. I’m thinking of using one or two anchovies processed with the other ingredients in the food processor.

    Any thoughts?

  5. Here’s my version:

    Substitute romaine for the arugula and omitted the sun-dried tomatoes.

    I did use (and like) the anchovy paste. I usually have it in my fridge anyway for Caesar dressing and Pasta Puttanesca.

  6. This was absolutely delicious! A sandwich I will definitely make again.

  7. The processed anchovies would probably be fine but if you don’t have any the paste might not be more expensive – it was only about $1 and it keeps well if you ever want to make caesar dressing in the future.

  8. This was sooo good. The only real change I made was omitting the anchovy paste since I couldn’t find it. Best Caesar dressing I’ve ever had, and the sun-dried tomatoes were a great burst of flavor.

  9. Very tastey! I made some substitutions since I didn’t have everything in stock and I had sick kids this week keeping me at home!

    Instead of anchovy paste I used capers, bacon instead of pancetta, and artichoke instead of sun-dried tomatoes (we finished them the week before!).

    LOVED the Caesar dressing!

  10. I ended up using about 3/4 of an anchovy filet instead of the paste and it turned out great. Like Barb, I used Romaine instead of Arugula and left out the sun-dried tomatoes.

    We loved this sandwich! Delish.

  11. I loved this, a lot more than I thought I would. So even though I am late on this, it was worth the wait. I went with a wrap instead of the bread too.

  12. Yum. That says it all. I went with a wrap instead of the bread, but pretty much kept to the rest of the recipe. Loved it!
