    Here is what Tara and Gwenn had to say about the questions I asked last week:

    If you could spend a day with Ina Garten, what one question are you dying to ask her?

    Tara: “For my question, I don’t think I have a particular one. Just some chit-chat with lots of questions that would pop into my head about her recipes, travels, career experiences, etc.”

    Gwenn:  “What is your favorite restaurant food, that you dislike making for yourself because it is too labor intensive, or you just can’t get it as good as their version? Also, what is your favorite New York restaurant?”

    How would you want to spend the day?

    Tara: “I would love to spend the day visiting some of the fun shops she features on her show and meeting some of the regulars that visit her kitchen.”

    Gwenn: “I would love to spend the day touring her gardens, her kitchen and her favorite spots in the Hamptons (Ina’s insider tour of the Hamptons).”

    What would you request to make with her?

    Tara: “I would love to cook a simple, picnic meal with her to take to the beach. Perfection.”

    Gwenn: “I cannot even begin to imagine what I would want to cook with her. One of her amazing soups, or her Outrageous Brownies or rugelach. I’d also love to help her test a new recipe, or teach her one of my recipes!”


    April Recipe Choices + a Giveaway!

    Spring is springing!!  Take advantage of these two ‘fabulous’ Ina recipes to add to your cookie repertoire and let us know what you think in the Musings posts or on the group’s Facebook page.

    In addition to being excited about two cookie recipes this month, I’m totally stoked about announcing our first giveaway!  Random House, Inc.,  the publishing company of Ina’s cookbooks has offered up two copies of The Barefoot Contessa Recipe Journal which is set to be released on April 6th.  This giveaway is open to members of Barefoot Bloggers who are on the blogroll as of April 1st.  In order to enter your name, please leave a comment on this post answering the following questions:

    Happy June!  I think you’ll find that this month’s recipes are some fabulous dishes to add to your late spring/early summer menus.  And you’ll see that The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook is finally getting the attention that’s due to it – the poor book was so neglected over the past year!

    It sure has been quite a year!! Below, you will see a collection of favorites from a handful of the BB members from over the past year.  Choosing certainly was not easy because for me as it seemed like every recipe was just so good…each better than the last!  Enjoy your fellow members’ picks below and if you didn’t submit yours, leave a comment and let us know what it was!



    Kate of Warm Olives and Cool Cocktails says, “My favorite BB challenge to date was the Butternut Squash Risotto, hands down.  I finally “got it” — why so many people love it and why a Seinfeld episode revolved around the orgasmic sounds we make when eating it.  This dish was delicious!”  Yet another example of Seinfeld imitating life.



    Carole of Hey Mom, What’s for Dinner? also thought that choosing just one was tough but thought that the Chicken Piccata was one of her favorites. Dontcha just want to dig in?



    Brandie (BMK) of Reservations Not Required listed off 4 recipes she needed to choose from but ended up going with the Herb-Baked Eggs as her favorite because this is the dish she has made over and over again.  Great choice!



    Aggie over at Aggie’s Kitchen had no problem choosing – the Panzanella was her instant favorite! Perfect for those too-hot-to-cook nights that are coming soon!



    Todd at A Cooking Dad was worried that his wife going to go for the Asian flavors of the Chinese Chicken Salad but good ol’ Ina proved him wrong; she went back for seconds!  Sounds like a winner to me too!



    Kanella of I Pray to Feta thinks that the Tomato and Goat Cheese Tart recipe is her tip top favorite Ina recipe. Ever.  It’s tough to argue against that!



    Deb from Kahakai Kitchen still craves crunchy bread topping from the Pappa al Pomidoro; the soup that helped get her recoup from being sick this past Christmas. She says this is “The kind of soup that warms you up, fills your tummy and your soul…”



    Melissa of Made by Mel already has plans to keep the Chinese Chicken Salad in her dinner rotation! Send some this way Mel!



    The Chicken Piccata was Jenny’s (of Peanut Butter & Jenny) first – and favorite! – BB recipe.  Sans breadcrumbs but definitely not lacking in any flavor!



    Veronica over at Supermarket Serenade says that after eating the Banana Sour Cream Pancakes, “It came as no surprise to me that Ina could improve upon something as tasty and simple as pancakes – her version did not disappoint.” Ditto that!!



    Another vote for the Tomato and Goat Cheese Tarts!  This actually was Anne’s pick (of Anne Strawberry) for her April recipe and boy oh boy did she pick a winner! She changed it a up a bit, using bell peppers in place of tomatoes but that sounds like delicious substitute to me!



    Yudith of Blissfully Delicious and her husband have shared many, many banana pancake breakfasts but Ina’s Sour Cream Banana Pancakes have taken her “little old pancake recipe to a completely different height.”  Sounds like the banana pancake connoisseur approves!



    Ezra Pound Cake’s Rebecca has a new BFF.  And it’s name is Butternut Squash Risotto.  It was love at first bite which prompted her to fill a bowl the size of her head with the risotto. I don’t Rebecca was the only one of us who fell in love with this risotto!



    Personally, I had a serious issue choosing just one recipe.  Would it be the Risotto, the Tomato and Goat [Feta] Cheese Tarts, or the California Grilled Pizza?  In the end, I had to defer to the hungry, hungry hubby to help me choose.  And so we mutually concluded that the Croque Monsieur was our favorite recipe.  An easy weeknight meal with salty ham and ooey gooey tangy cheese sauce.  If it’s this good, I certainly don’t mind having to eat a sandwich with a fork!


    The Search for an Avatar…

    …is coming.  I’m waiting for one person to reformat their entry because it was too large of a file to post in the blog.  I’m hoping to have the choices up for tomorrow and voting will go until 11:59pm on 10/22.  The winner will be announced on Thursday 10/23, our Vegetable Pot Pie posting day.  Sorry for the delay!!!

    Martha Martha Martha!

    No, that’s not Jan Brady shouting her favorite line with a lisp…its me being excited about Martha Stewart’s blogging opportunity. A few months back, Martha joined the blogging community and recently did an entire show devoted entirely to blogging…how cool is that?? During this show, where she briefly interviewed one of my all-time favorite bloggers, she announced that she would be featuring a number regular ol’ blogs (my words, not hers) on her blog – talk about an opportunity!!! All you’ve got to do is go to this post in Martha’s blog and leave a comment with your blog name…then of course link back to Martha’s blog in your own blog. Too easy!! Fingers crossed you’ll see me there soon!!!

    August Bonus Recipe Challenge (BRC) Winner!

    Ladies and gents, we have a winner for the August BRC! Hats off to Rebecca of Ezra Pound Cake who convinced the most number of people in July that the BB blog is the place to be. If you haven’t checked out Rebecca’s blog, you’ve missed out on some downright hilarious stories and fabulous photography – I urge you to see what’s going on over there.

    For the August BRC, Rebecca has chosen Ina’s California Grilled Pizzas which is an optional recipe and should be posted on Thursday August 21st. Sounds like a fantastic recipe to test out!!! Have fun with this one!

    Welcome to the new blogging event dedicated to The Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten. There are tons of food blogging events out there ranging from Weekend Herb Blogging to my personal favorite, Tuesdays with Dorie, but I’ve yet to come across (or have even heard of) any events dedicated to cooking and baking from Ina Garten’s oh so famous cookbooks…until now.

    Requirements for Participation and Info Please read carefully before signing up!!

    1. You must have a blog.
    2. This is a bi-weekly event so I ask that you participate 2x per month. This will give you ample time to post your dish within the 2 week period. You have the option of cooking/baking and posting 2 recipes on the last day of the month if your month gets busy and you find yourself at the end of the month with no recipes made yet.
    3. You DO NOT have to purchase any of Ina’s cookbooks but it certainly would be helpful in order to pick your recipe when it comes time. Chosen recipes can come from either the cookbooks or http://www.foodnetwork.com but an actual recipe must exist in order for it to be chosen.
    4. A new recipe will be chosen by a new and different Barefoot Blogger for each recipe session. We will repeat the list as necessary.
    5. The order of who chooses is based on the order in which I receive email requests from bloggers asking to participate.
    6. Two new recipes will be posted here on the last day of every month and will be labeled to indicate what week you should cook/bake and post your results in your blog.
    7. Post your recipe results in your blog on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month. To clarify, for June, choices will need to be emailed to me (with either a link to the full recipe or the recipe typed out in MS Word or a Google doc) by midnight Eastern Time on May 30th and I will post them on May 31st. The first June recipe will be blogged on June 12th and the second recipe on June 26th.
    8. Please see #2 above for the option of posting both recipes by the last day of the month if you fall behind, as we all tend to do sometimes, but I ask that you truly make the effort to keep up with the group. 🙂
    9. If you know you will not be able to participate for a week (vacation, moving, deathly ill and in bed, etc), please let me know. I do ask that you make up the recipe and post it by the last day of the month.
    10. Many of Ina’s recipes are full of meat and sugar (not necessarily together 😉 so if a chosen recipe does not meet your dietary restrictions (vegetarian, diabetic, allergies, etc) you have 2 options: 1.) email me to let me know this and you will receive a “PASS” for that week or 2.) you could modify the recipe to fit your restrictions. Please carefully consider the types of recipes we will be making before signing up.
    11. I will be keeping close tabs on who is blogging month to month and if there are any months that go by without the required 2 Barefoot Blogger blogs each month, you will be sent a reminder email. If I see 2 consecutive months without the 2 Barefoot Blogger blogs and you haven’t contacted me, I will automatically remove you from the list. I’m playin’ hardball. 😉
    12. A recipe or two will most likely come along that you just cannot make for whatever reason. For me, I won’t be making every lamb recipe (and there are a few) because lamb makes me gag but I will occasionally make it for my dear husband who begs me to make lamb for him. In the case where you just cannot bring yourself to make a recipe (aside from dietary restrictions), please let me know and I will issue you a “SPECIAL PASS”. Creative huh? Four of these “SPECIAL PASSES” will be issued to each blogger per year so choose your requests carefully. It’s important to remember that at some point during this blogging event, we all will be cooking and baking outside of our comfort zones so please try to “go out on a limb” and try something new and/or different.
    13. I understand that circumstances change so if after you sign up you don’t feel like you can keep up with the group, please email me and I will remove you from the list. I’ve tried to make the requirements fairly flexible as I know we all have crazy schedules, but please remember this is a commitment.
